What are the best lenses I can get for my Canon EOS 600D when it comes filmmaking and/or documentary shooting?
I have purchased a Canon EOS 600D and would like to use it for making films and occasionally documentaries. What lenses would you recommend I purchase for it?
A big push for using these cameras is the stunning depth of field you can achieve that completely blurs out the background. For doing that, you will need a lens with a wide aperture such as the Canon 50mm f/1.8 or the 50mm f/1.4 which is one of the most popular lenses for film making. Unfortunately non of those are stabilized so if you are not tripod shooting, you will need something that is. One of the better ones is the Sigma 17-50mm OS or the Canon equivalent (though much more expensive) Canon 18-55mm f/2.8 IS. Ideally you should be shooting with a lens in the range of 35-50mm with a wide open aperture for best results for documentary or filmmaking type shooting. If you are shooting outdoors, this will require a very fast shutter speed to shoot wide open at f/2.8 or wider so plan on getting some strong ND filters or a variable ND filter to reduce the amount of light in the camera.
